Church History

Three years after founding the East Coast Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA, Bro. Lamb and his wife along with four kids moved to Hammond, IN to wait upon the Lord for direction.  It was during this time of waiting that Joe Wittig, a native of San Antonio and close friend of Bro. Lamb, asked him to consider starting a church in his home town.  After flying down to San Antonio for a week and receiving the grand tour from Bro. Joe's wife Linda, God impressed upon the Lamb's hearts the need of this city for a solid, bible based, evangelistic church.

In late July of 1995 Bro. Lamb and his family moved to San Antonio, TX with the intent of starting Freedom.  The first church service held was in early October of that same year.  Services were held in the Luvin' Care, a day care center located at the intersection of Bandera and Grissom Road in Leon Valley.  After meeting in the day care for over a year the church acquired another building located at Culebra and 36th St, across from St. Mary's University.  After much renovation, as it was once a bar, it converted nicely into a meeting place for Freedom for the next several years.

In 1999, the church was able to purchase several acres of property, ironically just across the street from the Luvin' care day care where the church first started. In 2002, after three years in a building project, we began holding all of our services in the new building.

This short history of our church is just the starting place of God's working with His people.  God still has much history to write through our church.  Thank you for reading this and may God richly bless you.
